Luca Ripanti - Baroque Flutes

The great XVI and XVII Century tradition tells us that many among the great flutists of those ages used to build their own instruments. Even before being flute makers, Hotteterre, Quantz, Buffardin, Palanca, Grenser, were renowned musicians. Some of them played a huge role in developing both flute technique and repertoire, but they also introduced considerable innovations in their instruments. It therefore seemed to me like a natural process, after so many years spent as a flute player, starting to make copies of period instruments. Even in its uniqueness, each instrument I make is the result of the effort to create a flute that mirrors as closely as possible the original one, but above all an instrument of which sound, playability and pitch are in the service of the musician who will play it.
